Video: How to Make Beyond Belief Plant-Based Meat

The companies making fake meat burgers have done a really good job of convincing the public that their “plant-based” alternatives are healthy. But the fact that these burgers are being swept up by fast food chains should be pretty telling about how unhealthy they are. They’re made with heavily refined and synthetic ingredients, they’re high in sodium, and high in saturated fat.

But what if people could actually see what goes into their processed food?

Watch how to create “Beyond” style plant-based burger patties using the SAME ingredients you’ll find on the label of store-bought products. (Spoiler alert: You won’t find many actual plants in here).

Gross? You bet.

Here’s the full list of ingredients you’ll find in a Beyond Meat burger:

Water, Pea Protein Isolate, Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Refined Coconut Oil, Contains 2% or less of the following: Cellulose from Bamboo, Methylcellulose, Potato Starch, Natural Flavor, Maltodextrin, Yeast Extract, Salt, Sunflower Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Dried Yeast, Gum Arabic, Citrus Extract (to protect quality), Ascorbic Acid (to maintain color), Beet Juice Extract (for color), Acetic Acid, Succinic Acid, Modified Food Starch, Annatto (for color).

The company’s intention may be good, but feeding people processed junk is not the right way to save the planet or feed the masses. And what’s worse is that Beyond Meat definitely isn’t the only company doing this.

The Plant Based Meat Ingredient Guide exposes the most concerning ingredients in these heavily processed fake foods, and lets you see exactly which products you’ll find them in.
